NEW YEARS DAY IN THE WOMEN’S REFORMATORY.
KNIFE AND FORK TEA, FLOWERS ON TABLE. “Scribe" writes: New Year's Day will be long and kindly remembered by the i inmates of the Women’s Reformatory, ! Addington. What might be called a I knife and fork tea was given by the I Salvation Army under the management of Ensign Newton and Mrs Major I Barnes. The tables, laid with an abunj dance of good things, and tastefully i decorated with fresh-cut flowers, lookj cd very pretty. A nice soothing cup j of tea and the good cheer set before them soon brought a smile of appreciation on the faces of all present. They set to work with a right good will, and after an enjoyable meal, passed a hearty vote of thanks to the two offi- ' cers who had worked so hard to get it up. The matron and her assistants helped in every way possible to make this pleasing function a success. Tn response to Ensign Newton’s appeal for funds, goods, etc., the Salvation Army were able to distribute over eighty parcels of provisions to provide i Christmas dinners for the poor.
