In the welter-weight championship Billy Grime beat Eddie Butcher (the holder) easily. Grime scaled 9st 041 b. and Butcher lOst 541 b. Grime's greatest admirers never expected the match would finish so quickly. Grime was small in comparison with the massive Butcher, and with his weight considered it did not appear a fair match. Butcher towered over his crouching opponent, and drove several hard rights to the head. Grime's evasiveness amused the crowd, which roared its applause. In the fourth round, with Butcher coming in with a long left, Grime ducked, and drove his right to the solar plexus. Butcher fell on his face, rolled over in pain, and was counted out. Tommy M'Grath Wins. Tommy M’Grath out-pointed A 1 Brown by 9 points to 8 with a technical knockout in the seventh round. (Received January 3, 12.25 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 3. Alf Stewart beat Ernest Tymcke in the sixteenth round. The referee stopped the match.
