The Christchurch Amateur Operatic Society met last night to decide whether to produce the musical comedy. “ The Arcadians.” The play has been produced by the Auckland Society just recently and played to capacity houses. Owing to the fact that the whole show depends upon the comedian Peter Doody (the mournful jockey who has been riding in races* all his life and yet never won one) the society decided to call for applicants for that part. It is hoped that the society will be able to produce “ The Arcadians,” as it is quite one of the most remembered musical comedies of the century and features some well-known songs, such as “ I've Got a Motto,” etc. The Railway Department advertise that the 5.10 p.m. Belfast-Christchurch train will not run on January 3.
