Per Press Association. TAUMARUXUI. December 30. Two sisters, Mavis and Thvra Dette, aged twelve and fourteen respectively, were drowned at Victory Bridge. Wan ganui River. A large party of children were bathing and all had left the water except Mavis Dette, who was observed to be in difficulties. Her sister. Thj'ra, attempted a rescue, but both went under, and were drowned. Thyra’s body was recovered quickly by a young man, who was called to the scene, but life was extinct.
