RECLAMATION AT WHANGAREL

AGRICULTURE MINISTER INSPECTS THE LAND. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, November 27. The Minister of Agriculture yesterday paid a visit of inspection to the areas of land reclaimed by means of stop banking and dredging from the river by the Harbour Board. He gave his opinion that, with the natural deposit combined with a mixture of clay, the areas should in time become very fertile. The Government had acquired from the board a small area of five acres for experimental purposes, which would be watched with interest. The i Government had not undertaken the' reclamation of such land up to the' present, but if the experiment was a success there were many thousands of acres that could be won on the North Auckland tidal frontages, with other parts of New Zealand. It was stated by Mr Fraser, engineer to the board, that it had six to eight thousand acres that could be reclaimed in the territory under the board's jurisdiction.
