“Star” Christmas Number COMPETITIONS The Christinas Number of the “Star," which will be published at the usual time this year, will endeavour to preserve the distinctive Canterbury atmosphere that is associated with the time of year at which the First Four Ships arrived in the province. This year’s competitions will be as follows: A Canterbury Poem—‘THE MOUNTAINS AND THE PLAINS,” or "THE HILLS THAT OVERLOOK CHRISTCHURCH.” First Prize .. .. ..£330 Second Prize .. .. ..£llO Descriptive Story—"A CANTERBURY RAMBLE.” A description, not exceeding 1200 words, of a day’s ramble in town or country. First Prize .. .. ..£330 THE EARLY DAYS. A true incident of the early days of Canterbury (not necessarily written by an Old Colonist). First Prize .. ..£SOO A suitable illustration accompanying the story will be a consideration in the awarding of this prize. Contributions that do not win a prize but merit publication will be paid for at space rates. All contributions must be the original work of the competitor. Contributions must be in the bands of the editor of the “Star” by December 10.
