“STAR” PRAISED BY CITY COUNCILLORS.
CHRISTMAS ANNUAL IS A MASTERPIECE.
Very high praise of the “ Star’s ” Christmas number showing views of Christchurch was given by several councillors at last night’s meeting of the City Council. The question of advertising Christchurch was being discussed and the opinion was expressed that the council could not do better than buy a number of copies of the Christmas number of the “ Star ” and circulate them abroad to advertise the city. “ Really a masterpiece," was how Councillor W. E. Leadley described the publication. Councillor E. R. M’Combs said that when she visited Australia she was struck by the lack of knowledge of New Zealand and particularly of Canterbury and Christchurch. If the council wanted to advertise Christchurch they could not do better than buy a number of copies of the "Stair’s" Christmas number and broadcast them. If the council did. that they would be doing a very useful work for the city. Councillor F. R. Cooke, who intends to pay a visit to the Old Country next year, said that he would take a number of copies of the Christmas number of the “ Star ” with him. The number was unique and it gave many beautiful views of the city. He had never seen such a beautiful view of Cathedral Square in any other paper. If they wanted to attract tourists to Christchurch the council should send copies of the number all over the world. Councillor W. E. Leadley said that the number was reallv a masterpiece. No doubt thousands of copies would be sent by people to friends at Home and in this way the city would be advertised.
