Miss Clarke, Nelson, is the guest of Mrs Geoffre\'- Kingscote, Fendalton. Mrs E. J. Cordner (Fendalton) who was spending a few days with Mrs Herbert Aeton-Adams, Tipapa,‘has returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. Deans returned to New Zealand by the Tahiti, and are visiting Mrs Deans's mother, Lady Russell, Hawke's Ba}', before returning to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs F. Whitesides arc spending a holiday in Wellington. Mrs Richardson is the guest of Mrs R., Malcolm, Park Terrace. Mrs St A. Murray will return to wiristchurch this morning from the North Island. Mrs Thomas, Ashburton, is visiting Mr and Mrs Charles Thomas, Inncs Road. Dr and Mrs Washbourne, Marlborough, have returned to their home after a brief stay in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Arnaud M’Kellar have returned to Christchurch from the North Island. Mrs J. Cave, Sydney, will arrive in Christchurch to-day, and will stay "at the United Service Hotel. Mrs W. J. A. M’Gregor, of Invercargill, is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Miss M. Petre, who was the guest of Miss B. Petre, Arthur’s Pass, returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Mrs J. W. Smith, Invercargill, Mr and Mrs G. M’Millan, Auckland, and Mrs E. Law Smith, 1 South Australia, are among the recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel.

Mrs R. B. Bennett, Ellerslie Street, is spending a short holiday in Kaikoura. Mrs W. Pinckney, England, who was with Mr and Mrs W. Pinckney, Glenaray, Southland, is now at Orari Gorge. Miss Stewart, who was with Mrs E. Stockwell, White Street, Timaru, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs A. C. Palmer, Temuka. has returned to the south from Christchurch. The fete held at “Riverlaw” on Sat-' urday afternoon, was in aid of the St Martin's Sunday School fund, and not for the Opawa School, as previously stated. Visitors at Gainsborough House, Governor’s Bay, include.—Mr and Mrs G. Clark, Papanui; Mr Jones, Mrs and Miss Mogridge, St Albans; Miss Stoddart, Cashmere Hills; Miss E. Stephenson and G. Nixon, Riccarton. An enjoyable social was given by the young ladies of North Beach in Mr N. M’Gillivray’s gymnasium. The evening was spent in dancing and games, and the success of the function reflected credit on the promoters. The music was supplied by 7 Mi?S RossSmith. On Saturday a successful gift afternoon was given at the home of Miss Thelma Hicks in honour of Miss Thelma Floyd, who is shortly to be married. Those present were:—Mesdames Floyd, Hicks, Digbj% Pickles, Bateman and Cansella; Misses Thelma Floyd, I. Loader, I. Shrimpton, M. Munro, E. Snelgrove, Phyllis Peterson, Joyce Staff, Mabel Dalton, Flora M’Donald, C. Langley, Rena Algey, Connie Adkins, Dorothy Wilson, Joan Wilson, Muriel Johns, Marjorie Chapman, Gladys Rowe, Una Digby and Nancy Carr. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent at the residence of Mrs S. Walls, 9, Warrington Street, on Saturday, in the form of a “china afternoon” in honour of the marriage of Miss Hilda Henderson, which takes place this week. Items were given by Misses R. M’Meekin, A. Wass and I. Todd, and with croquet and competitions, the afternoon passed very quickly. Miss Henderson was the recipient of many beautiful presents. Those present included—Mrs T. Newton, Mrs A. Day, Mrs S. Walls, Misses Hilda Henderson, Wynne Campbell, Doris Lowry, Avis Suckling, Winnie Worsfold, Eilenfe Worsfold, Ada Wass, Irene Todd, Ruby Cookson, Rita M’Meekin and Hilda Walls. The girls of the Presb\terian Girls’ Home, under the charge of the Misses Murray, had an enjoyable outing to Sumner on Saturday at the invitation of the Sumner branch of the P.W.M.U. A committee, consisting of Mesdames M’Ara. Denham, Longue t, Hampton and Miss Killner, charge of the arrangements, and was ably assisted by others connected with the Sumner Presbyterian Church. Mrs Denham, of the Esplanade, kindly lent her house and grounds for the entertainment of the visitors, lucheon and afternoon tea being served there. Each child was the recipient of a little gift from the ladies. Fruit and sweets were also distributed. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Denham for the u.se of her home, and to all who had helped to make the outing a success. Visitors to Arthur's Pass include: Mr and Mrs G. P. Blackburn and family, of New Brighton; Mr and Mrs Page, Christchurch; Mr and Mrs H. G. Christie, Allanton, Otago; Mrs A. Cook and Mr D. Cook, Runanga. Guests at the Hotel Federal include: Mr F. Meredith (Dunedin), Mr 11. D. James, Mr J. M. Saunders, Mr H. Herring, Mr D. James, jun. (Greymouth), Mr and Mrs J. R. Bruce (Dunedin), Mr 11. Snushall (Kaikoura), Mr A. J. Ford (Dunedin), Mr Webber (Timaru). On Saturday afternoon, Miss Mavis Sneesby, whose marriage is to take place shortly, entertained a number of her friends at her home in Rose Street. Among those present were:—Misses Merva Somerset, Esther Gibson, Jean Hunter, Maude Wilson, Bertha Stark, K. Tench, E. Anderson, Jean Tench, Maiona Constance Harris, Marjorie Sneesby, Madeline O’Brien. Sylvia Collins, Gladj-s Simpson, Ida Withers, Edna Simpson, Jean M’Kay, T. Malloch, Rudd, and Gwynn Evans.
