WOULD NOT SAIL WITHOUT BUTCHER, SO THEY WERE PAID OFF.

By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 23, 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 23. When the steamer Suva was ready to sail for Fiji, trouble arose over the engagement of a butcher. The cooks refused to sail without one. The trouble apparently arose over a claim for compensation by the butcher on another of the Australian United Steam Navigation Company’s steamers, which the Cooks’ Union alleged had not been properly met. As no butcher for the Suva was offering, the crew were paid off and the vessel’s sailing postponed indefinitely.
