SELWYN PLANTATIONS BOARD HOLDS MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Selwyn Plantations Board was held to-day. Present: Messrs W. Stewart (chairman), S. A. Staples. Li. Scott. U. A. Miller, It. M. Morfen, A. E. Eangdale Hunt, C- -nAdams, C. "Wolfe, and J. Storry. In his monthly report* the superintendent stated that the hailstorm on November 12 had done a fair amount of damage to unprotected seedlings in the Malvern County. The moist weather conditions were causing abnormally strong growth in all classes of trees in establish#! plantations. Of the timber cut from the Oarfleld plantation 32,050 super, feet of pine, 400 feet of gum and 16 cords of firewood were disposed of. The marginal belt of trees near Coalgate yielded 58,000 super, feet of pine and 62 cords of firewood. The tractor had been engaged in ploughing and discing firebreaks in the Horprata-Dunsan-del districts and along, the railway reserves from Dunsandel to the Rakaia River. There was every indication of rabbits becoming unusually troublesome being made with several experts to start trapping immediately.
The report was adopted and it was decided to write to the Paparua County should be given in checking the rabbit nuisance in the vicinity of some of the board's plantations.
