Consuelo Vanderbilt Was Forced To Wed Duke By Parents.

COUSIN EXPOSES WEALTHY AMERICANS' HUNT FOR TITLES. ONE FAMILY SEEKS CROWN OF ENGLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.—Aus and N.Z. Cable Assn. (Received November 22, 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, November 21. Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jun., in a copyrighted article in the “ New York American ” on Sunday, says that his cousin, Consuelo, was “ sold by a Hierarchy, better known as the Four Hundred, in which her parents are dominant factors,” to the Duke of Marlborough. The marriage and recent annulment by the Catholic Church created an international stir. Cornelius Vanderbilt says: “It is no family secret now to tell that Consuelo, when she was forced to marry the Duke of M&rlborough, was ... .wtv mui oil American, a handsome young man who later made a name for himself greater than he inherited, and greater than she was forced to marry.” Concluding his condemnation of the ■penchant of wealthy American families for “princely marriages,” Vanderbilt says: “ There is one family in New York which, in the past ten years, has exerted every effort to form an alliance with the British Crown.” If the Parliament of Britain would set aside a certain ceremony, required as a precedent, such a marriage would be possible, and a New York girl, not so distantly related to the wnriter, would become the future Queen of England.
