GUN CLUB HOLDS CLAY BIRD MATCH.

On Saturday afternoon the .Christchurch Gun Club he Iff a £2O Clay bird match and the South Island clay bird championship. The majority o t the best shots in the South Island took part. th f B l loo i in * * as or a particularly high standard. The targets Were thrown very fast, and at a lower elevation than usual, but strictly in accordance with the New Zealand ruiefe. The first competition was a £2O clay bird handicap, each n/n firing at seventeen birds. There Averc twenty-nine competitors, and the prize money was divided by R. M’Tllwrick (TOftaru), W Anderson (Oxford), P. Trutofctt (Christchurch) and A. N. Turner (Christchurch), who each broke the possible. J. There were twenty-six competitors, and only nine completed the journej*. all the others retiring with three or more misses. The first man to shoot was W. G. M’Cullock, last year's champion, and, although he shot well, he was unable to retain the title. The 1926 champion turned up in. H. Grennell, who broke the possible. He missed two in the previous match, but shot remarkably Well in the championship. Only a few weeks ago he won the Canterbury championship at Ashburton. Grennell on his excellent shooting* And handed him a handsome medal presented by the Christchurch Gun Club. To the runner-up he handed, an order for a trophy valued at £3 3ft, presented by Mr R. S. Taylor. Cheers were Rivdn for both winner and rurtner-up. Also for Mr L. Ebert, who gave ev6ty satisfaction as referee. The final event wAs a first miss out sweepstake, and it was decided that the prize money would be, divided when there were only foUr left in. Eighteen started, and at the twelfth round there were only six left in. All were shooting well until the twentieth round, when L. Kerr and A. N. Turned miftse’d. This left in W. G. M’Cullock, W. G. Clark, R. M’Tlwrick and H. M. and they divided the prize money.
