YACHTING.
CANTERBURY CLUB. Six yachts faced the starter at Lyttelton on Saturday, when the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club held an open handicap race for first and second-class yachts. The yachts crossed the line together in a light sou'-west breeze and smooth water, consequently ‘the race was slow. With the exception of Usher, all the boats made a long starboard tack. Usher put about to port to avoid lona, and they returned on the starboard tack. All stayed before making the Beacon Pile. The boats rounded the Pile on the first round in the following order:—lona, Water Beetle,' Phylis, Linnet., Usher, Magpie. They kept well together until passing Diamond Harbour, when lona and Water Beetle got into a better wind. The positions on the second round were the same, with the exception of Magpie, which retired from the race. The finish was as follows: Usher, 20min 1 Water Beetle, 11 min 2 Two other races, a Takapuna punt and a dinghy race, resulted a.s folTakapuna class—Wetu 1, Kaiwai 2, Weemay 3. Dinghy race—Myrtle 1, Victory 2.
