REFLECTIONS ON THINGS FASHIONABLE.

The fashion for wearing imitation jewels still persists, and one of the latest crazes is the narrow jewelled bracelet. Dozens of these are worn up the arm, just as glass ones used to be. and although they are frankly imitation, they are really very effective, since they glitter gaily. Usually they are made to imitate diamonds, sapphires or rubies and there is a wider kind of bracelet which is made with “sections” of diamonds alternating with squares of onyx or coloured jewels. No fashion has been more faithful than the one for wearing imitation flowers, and nowadays no one feels completely dressed unless she has a posy of some kind pinned into her fur or buttonhole. The newest flower of all is a big shaggy carnation, usually seen in white or a soft petunia shade. The newest hats are rather highcrowned affairs, and are reminiscent of a dustman’s hat, since they are made of felt and have their narrow brims turned down all the way round. The only trimming is a suede belt, caught round the crown and fastened in front with a buckle. Instead of this belt, some hats are trimmed with bands of differently-coloured ribbon swathed round to give a striped effect. _ Another Parisian notion is to hem silk frocks with woollen material, and this opens up great possibilities in the way of renovations. If you have a neutral-shaded silk frock which you

want to wear during the winter, give it a hem of kasha or rep. and it will take on a new lease of life immediately. They say that the new line for coals is a very slim one. but instead of the straight-hanging effect of the last few seasons, this winter our coats will mould themselves closely to the figure. Wrap coats of this description are already being made of velvet or fine cloth for between the seasons wear, and they arc finished with a narrow fur collar.
