MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M.) INDECENT ACT. Charged with committing a grossly indecent act, Frederick Gifford pleaded guilty, and was fined £5. TWELVE MONTHS’ DETENTION. Charlotte Elizabeth Applin pleaded guilty to a charge of committing a grossly indecent act, and was sentenced to twelve months reformative detention. On a joint charge c-f breaking her prohibition order, Applin pleaded guilty, and was convicted and discharged. Commenting on his decision, the Magistrate stated that drink was evidently Applin’s trouble, and if he put her where she would not be able to obtain intoxicants it would be the best thing he could do for her.
