EXAM. AND DEGREE DECISIONS MADE.
UNIVERSITY BOARD OF STUDIES MEETS. Per Pres* Association. AUCKLAND, November 6. The University Board of Studies decided to establish a Diploma in Fine Arts and the matter was referred to the Arts Committee of the Board with the addition of Professor Shelley, to consider details. A recommendation from the Professorial Board of Otago University that the B.Sc. statute should be drawn up in terms of units, in the same way as for the B.A. degree, was adopted. On the recommendation of > the Entrance Examinations Committee it was decided to adopt the proposed Homecraft courses for Matriculation. It was decided that mark 3 for geography in the entrance scholarship examinations should be raised from 200 to 300, when the new syllabus of a higher standard came into use. The committee’s recommendation that agri-
culture as a Matriculation subject should be abolished was adopted bv 13 votes to 7. It was decided that General Biologv should be a pass subject for the B.A. degree, to be placed in group B as an alternative to Botany or Zoology. The deletion of Physiology as a subject for Matriculation was agreed upon. It was decided that Education should be added to the subjects mentioned in paragraph 3 under the Post-Graduate Scholarship in Arts. The paragraph at present restricts candidates to those who have gained First or Second-class Honours in the subjects of Languages Philosophy, Economics, or History.
