AUCKLAND RACES. » Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. November 6. The A.R.C. Spring meeting opened today in cloudy weather after a rainy night. The course was rather heavy. There was a large attendance. Won by three and a quarter lengths. Time—lmin 44 3-osec. GREAT NORTHERN GUINEAS. Of 1500 sovs. One mile. 1- 1 4 True Blood 2 3—Tinokoa 3 Scratched: Antrim Boy, Ballachulish, Tea Bell. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time—lmin 44 l-sscc. SHORTS HANDICAP, Of 650 soys. Six furlongs. B—Kingfield, 7.0 1 11—Chairman, 7.3 2 2 York Abbe}. 8.9 ... 3 Scratched: Le Choucas, Serang, Penman, Pompey. Won by a length. Time—-2m in ITscc. MITCHELSON CUP. Of 2000 sovs. 1J miles. 5 Star Ranger. 7.5, ... 1 1— Eden Hall. 8.3 (bracketed _ with Nippy) 2 2 Mandane. 8.3 3 Scratched: Transformer, Town Bank, Scat, Sleepy Sol and Mint Leaf. Won by a neck, a length between second and third. Time—2min 44sec. . HUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE, Of 500 sovs: about 2* miles. I—Ngahinepouri. 10.2 1 3 Syndicate, 9.0 2 3—Haxelbum, 11.0 3 Scratched: Beau Cavalier and The Drifter. Won by three lengths, a neck between second and third. Time —omin 13sec. WELCOME STAKES. Of 1000 sovs. Five furlongs. Laughing Prince, 8.5 1 High Finance, 8.5 2 Ti Tree. 8.0 3 Scratched—Royal Ceres, bay colt by Phurnham, and Flying Tresses. Won by a neck. Time—lmin 4 2-ssee. After the Great Northern Guineas an inquiry was held into the interference with Tinokoa and Chamour by True Blood. It was decided to place True Blood fourth. Keesing, the jockey, was suspended'until the end of the meeting. NOTES ON THE RACES. (Special to the “ Star.”) The programme opened with the first division of the Gordon Handicap, t"or which Clarus was made about £IOO better favourite than King Smock, while Wenday and New Moon also had friends. I own Bird was first to show out for the home run from Clarus. Papatu, '■’lockwork and Kink Smock. In a good finish Clarus (W. HI .Tones' drew out ro win by three-quarters of a length from Wenday, who beat New Moon by a length. Quinsilia was fourth! In the Guineas Lysander carried three-quarters of the investments on the machine. At the distance it looked as though • Tinokoa ha.d Lysander beaten. Then True Blood appeared on the scene and a most exciting finish resulted. Under the whip Lysander (L. A. Pino) < ame again and got the verdict by tffreor quarters of a length from True Blood, whose supporters did not receive a dividend, there being only five starters. Chamour and War Officer followed Tinokoa home. Tn the Shorts Handicap Tea Bell was favourite, carrying £2OO more than York Abbey, wbile Merry Jest and Merry Damon were next in demand. Kingfield was the first to turn for home, followed, by < Chairman, Nancy Lee, York Abbey, Pavo, Bay Guard and Tea Bell. Kingfield (J. Tuohey) went on to win by a length from Chairman, who was a. similar distance in front of York Abbey. followed by. Nancy Lee, Day Guard, Tukia. Merry Jest, Merry Damon and the favourite. Time—-lmin 17sec. 7n the Mitchelson Cup Muscari was left at the post. Boomerday was the first to straighten up for home, with Mask, Nippy, Kden Hall, Gold Jacket and Star Ranger, who had come fast over the last two furlongs, next. At the distance Star Ranger (Goldsborough) was rushed to the front to win. by a neck. Lord Star was fourth. In the Michelson Cup the bracket. Nippy and Kden Hall, carried slightly more than Mandane. Aurumavis was :* Iso well supported for the Hunters’ Steeplechase. Ngahinepouri was a trifle better backed than Bahadur, while Hazel burn was the next best fancied. Haaselburn was the first on to the course proper, from Ngahinepouri. Bahadur and Syndicate, but once over the last fence Ngahinepouri (Rennie) drew out to win by three lengths from Syndicate, who stayed on better than Hazelbum. Bahadur was fourth. Time—smin 13sec. There were several inquiries, and. as a result of one into the interference by True Blood with Tinokoa and Chamour in the Guineas. Mr Scholium’s borse was relegated from second to fourth place, and rhe jockey, E. Keesing, was suspended for the rest of the meeting. Merry Jest’s running in the Shorts Handicap gave dissatisfaction to the stewards. but after an inquiry the}’ decided 1 o take no action. Barometer fell in the Mitchelson Cup, but the stewards were of the opinion that such was acci-
