COMMENT ON THE RACES. (Reeceived November 5,2 p.m.) SYDNEY. Not ember 5. Commenting on the Linlithgow Stakes, the '•Herald" says:—"lt was an unsatisfactory race from the beginning. As the barrier was released, Valicare. Metellus. and Palelight were associated in a mix-up, but owing to the rain it was difficult to see what happened. However. Amounts was not 'concerned, for he jumped out clear and soon had a couple of lengths advantage. VaJi- • are caught up at five furlongs and went ahead, while Metellus and Palelight were already out of the picture. It wae anticipated that if Amounis was In striking distance of Valicare at *he turn, he would make the finish interesting. but to the surprise of many Valicare made it easy for him. She ran off the course coming into the straight, while Amounts finished as straight ne possible and won easily by four lengths. The race proved that Amounts was never in better heart. He wan always going nicely and came home well, notwithstanding the strong wind against him and that rain fell while the event was being run. The "Telegraph’' nays that Valicare ran the worst race of her career. The fact that it wan her first race on a lefthanded track helped to bring about her defeat.
