WHALERS GUILTY OF CARELESS NAVIGATION.

Per Press Association.

BLENHEIM, November 4. The judgment of the Nautical Court of Inquiry into the two collisions by rival whaling launches commanded re spectively by E. C. Perano and his brother Jr A. Perano, finds E. C. Perano guilty of careless navigation in both cases. The judgment states that whaling in itself is sufficiently exciting and hazardous without additional risks due to the endeavour of one party to beat the other, and recommends that the Marine Department amend the Rules of Navigation to provide that where a. launch is fast to a whale no other craft approach within a quarter‘oi a. mile until the whale is secured. E. C. Perano was ordered to pay £25 towards the cost of the inquiry.
