LAWN TENNIS.

FENDALTON CLUB OPENS. The opening of the Fendalton Tennis and Croquet Club's season for < took place this afternoon, in glorious sunshine, and in the presence of a large gathering of members and visitors. The club captain (Mr W. S>. M Gibbon), in a speech declaring the club open, said that he had to congratulate the club on the fact that in its second year of existence, the membership was over 200. He expressed the hope that progress during the coming season would continue unchecked. He further mentioned that it was hoped to have five or six courts for play in time for next season. While no official matches were set down for competition, an exhibition game, played by Messrs Browning, Sonverville (2), and Tait, caused much interest, and at the conclusion of the match a series of friendly games were played by members of the club.
