Mr L. Palmer was now prepared to dedicate the land at the corner of Palmer’s Road and River Road, provided the council fenced the corner, formed the footpath and constructed a concrete kerbing and side channel. The offer was On the advice of Mr F. W. Freeman that Brittajiinia, Street, .had been satisfactorily formed, ft was decided to grant Mr Britt a certificate of completion. The Canterbury Progress League wrote for the council’s co-operation in the matter of putting in hand work which would assist in the relief of unemployment. It was decided to inform the league of the steps the council intended taking* in this matter. The North Beach and Waimairi Burgesses’ Association wrote advising that the Esplanade at North Beach had not been fully hardened up as requested, asking the council to take into consideration the 'levelling and clearing of Osborne Terrace Reserve in the event of unemployed labour being engaged and also drawing attention to potholes in the'Esplanade north of Bowhill Road. It was decided that the work be gone on with as soon as metal was available. Permission to erect a petrol bowser in Bellamy Avenue was granted to Mr r>. M'ClintockA deputation from the Pleasant Point Boat and Yacht Club waited on the council to-obtain permission to erect a boat staging on the New Brighton bank of the river immediately below the South Brighton bridge. Perm.ssion was granted, the details of the work to be subject to the overseer's approval. The. Mayor reported that he had arranged with Mr Langbien to inspect the foreshore protection works on Wednesday. Councillors Shaw and M’Croanor submitted estimates for the erection of a dressing shed on the sports ground. The motion to erect this shed was lost. It was decided to reconsider the matter when tenders had been received for some pine trees which a.re to be cut down in the Rawhit.i Domain at the back of Lo.nsdale Street. r l’he Standing Committee recommended that the sum of £SO be voted t" the Unemployment Fund on.a basis of £ for £, that local men be employed and that the. work, be carried out in the borough -and to' the approval of the joint committees of the Unemployment Fund and the council. A coinmittec consisting of Councillors Classon, Shaw and the overseer had been appointed to work with the committee of the Unemployment Fund. The chairman of. works had been empowered to make arrangements with the Tramway Board to carry out bitumen work on - Sea view Road, provided the cost did not exceed the original estiln : connection wit h the Jubilee Avenue requisition loan for drainage it had been decided that the drainage work he. gone on with and that the offer from a firm of sharebrokers to find the sum required at 5g per Cent be accepted. The report, was 'adopted. The Finance Committee reported that the chairman of finance and the Mayor had been appointed to interview a. firm of sharebrokers regarding the raising of the -flJ.hutr for tlie South Brighton bridge at 5 3 per cent. The' report of the committee set up to go inti* the staffing of the office was adopted. The Town Clerk’s resignation was received with regret. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the. Tramway Board for •the work done to the tramway tracks in .Seaview. Road. Councillor Leaver,, reported that another £lO had been donated towards the Municipal' Xiand. A series of concerts son, and the Mayor ;iml he had lbeen**requested by the band to approach Bandmaster J. Nu,ttal to re-consider his resignation.
