Mr Bernard Tripp, of the New Zealand Sheepewners’ Federation, declared: 'Speculators will never be ousted until a Statistical Bureau is established for supplying reliable information regarding the quantities of wool, meat and butter stored throughout. the Empire. ‘‘That is why I tried to induce the British Sheepbreeders’ CCnferkrtCe to demand a Bureau, to be attached to the Board of Trade,” he said. ‘‘Mr E. Alexander, head of Lincoln Agriculture College, New Zealand, strongly* stipported me. We were both amazed at the chairman’s refusal to put the motion because the Sheepbreeders’ Council had not considered the matter. 1
have since discussed the point with several authorities and fOund little resport**., but the Yorkshire wool manufacturers desire the establishment of a bureau, y-hidh, they assert, would stabilise prices. They* do not want a repetition of the 1924 slump, due to speculators storing quantities of wool, which was unloaded at a big profit. “My experience at the Melbourne Conference in 1925 suggests my agitation and voices the views of Australians as well as New Zealanders.’*
