PROTEST AGAINST RAILWAY METHODS.
MR E. H. MARRINER HAS LONG WAIT AT PORT. “ I wish to protest again against railway methods,” Mr E. H. Marriner, president of the Canterbury Industrial Association, said last night. “It is absolutely disgraceful that in these days it should take an hour and a half between Lyttelton and Christchurch, as was the case this morning, when I came from Wellington. We arrived at port at five minutes to eight, and it was just 9.25 when we reached the Christchurch station. What we were kept waiting for goodness knows. I understand that there was an American mail on board; that was all the satisfaction we got from our inquiries. There were between 300 and 400 people on the train. I understand that this is not an isolated case. Since thtf Mararoa has been running it has taken place times without number. I cannot understand why the people of Christchurch seem to allow this to occur time after time. Would Wellington or Auckland stand it? They would be up in arms at once, and it is time we in Christchurch woke up.”
