Sir Charles and Lady Campbell, North Canterbury, will leave for Timaru to-morrow for the hunt ball and races. They will stay at The Grosvenor. Mrs Fulton (Dunedin) is visiting her daughter, Mrs Terence Bridgeman. Mr and Mrs E. C. Huie will leave this evening for Auckland, where they will in future reside. Mr Justice Herdman and Mrs Herdman returned to Wellington last evenMrs Hugh Ensor and Mrs M’Cracken, Rangiora. have returned to their homes after a brief stay in Christchurch. Mrs W. I. Ross and Miss Grave, of Hastings, are among the recent arrivals staying at Warner's Hotel. Miss Dorothy Anderson (Armagh Street west) is leaving to-day for a visit to friends in India and Ceylon. Mrs C. S. Cray, Seaview Terrace, Timrau, returned to the south from Christchurch yesterday. i Mr and Mrs R. Fowler (Ceylon), who have been spending some months in Christchurch, will leave to-day for Wellington, en route for Ceylon. The collectors of the Cashmere Ilills Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society met at the residence of Mrs Hogg on Tuesday afternoon, when the sum of £66 Os 9d was handed in. Mr and Mrs Roger Johnston, North Canterbury, will be the guests of Mrs Melville Jameson, Otumarama, for the South Canterbury Jockey Club meeting on Saturday. Guests at the Hotel Federal include: Miss M. Dyer, Mr T. N. Leighton, Wellington; Mr W. G. Imrie, Timaru; Mr L. C. Dunn, Ashburton; Mr F. Bray, (Mr and Mrs A. M’Bride, Mr Lowery and Mr P. G. Connolly, Dunedin. The Rev Cyril M. Ellis and Mrs Ellis (Dunedin) arrived in Christchurch this morning and will spend a few days with their aunt, Mrs R. Macdonald, Hereford Street, before proceeding south. Mrs Ellis arrived ill Wellington yesterday from Sydney. A very pleasant entertainment was given to the patients and staff at the upper sanatorium, Cashmere Hills, on Monday evening, by Mr Munroe and a party consisting of Miss Johns, Miss Johnson', Messrs A. Dev, C. Collins, A. Boon and D. Bishop. The programme was of a high order, and the performers were heartily applauded for their excellent entertainment. The chairman of the Social Committee, in thanking Mr Munroe and party, expressed a wish that it would not be long before a return visit would be made. A meeting of the North Beach branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon. The president, Miss B. M. Harband, presided over a large attendance, and gave an outline of the cradle roll and young people’s work of the union. It was decided to form a young people’s branch at North Beach. It was resolved to assist the Bible in Schools League in their work. One new member was elected. Afternoon tea was dispensed later.

A successful plain and fancy dress party, organised by Mrs Caulfield in aid of the sweets stall at th- coming Linwood Scout bazaar, was held on Monday in the Methodist Church. There were about 200 present, a large number being in fancy dress. Mrs Fraer, Miss Pyke and Mr F. Bowley were judges. A number of prizes were awarded, the winner of the box of chocolates being Master Laurie Bell. An orchestra played selections during the evening. Mr Harrington and District Cubmaster W. Desmond were in charge of the games.
