IMPORTANT CHANGES MADE IN DAIRY INDUSTRY AMEND. BILL.

(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, July 22. The principal provision in the Dairy Industry Amendment Bill, introduced by the Minister of Agriculture, is the authority to make regulations providing for the classification of cream, according to the percentage of butter-fat and to make payment accordingly, fixing the minimum variation of such prices. Dairy companies, according to another clause, may not describe themselves as “co-operative,” unless they arc actually so and the Registrar of Companies is authorised to take steps to effect a change of name where there are non-co-operative companies now describing themselves as “co-operative.” The export provision that butter shall not contain an excess of 16 per cent of water is to be extended by adding the words “or less than SO per cent of butter-fat.” There are several clauses designed to prevent contamination on dairy farms and apportioning the expenditure as between landlord and tenant, where an inspector orders expenditure on buildings or other permanent improvements to the farm.
