LONG PERSECUTED, SAYS INDIAN KNIGHT, CHARGED WITH CHEATING.
CALCUTTA, June 20.. Sir Surendranath Banerjee, answering in the High Court on a charge of cheating, said he had been subjected to police persecution for eight years. He had been unable- to secure work in Calcutta or Karachi. and went to Basra, Bagdad and Eastern Turkey. He ‘was arrested in Eastern Turkey, sent to Mosul, and to leave the country. He escaped on a steamer to a Persian port, but was re-arrested on the border by Indian police, and landed at Karachi last December. The jury found that accused not guilty.
