CABLED WRONG WORD TO CALCUTTA, AND MUST PAY FOR ERROR
Firm has 50 Years’ Packs Supply When Only Wanted a Year's Stock. (Special to the “ Star. ’’) AUCKLAND, July 3. Information has come to Auckland from a southern source that a leading New Zealand firm has made a costly blunder, fifty years’ supply of wool packs being secured, whereas only twelve months’ requirements were intended. The mistake occurred in the wrong use of a word in cabling to Calcutta for 5000 bales of 5000 packs, each bale containing fifty woolpacks. An unsuccessful effort was made to cancel the purchase. . Diffi culty of Auckland merchants in ootaining freight space from the East may be due in some measure to the shipment of these surplus wool packs, besides which the market ma.y' be affected.
