NEW FENDALTON CHURCH WILL HAVE BELL CORILLON.
MANY INTERESTING GIFTS ARE TO BE FOUND IN BUILDING.
The carillon of eight bells which has been promised to the new St Barnabas’ Church, Fendalton, by Mrs G. Murray-Aynsley and Mr G. Gerard has just arrived from England, states the “ Church News." The west window presented by Miss Kl Gerard as a memorial to the soldiers who served in the Great War also has just been landed; the east window depicting the Resurrection (a memorial of Mr T. W. N. Beckett, for eighteen years warden) will be transferred from the old church to the new. _ _ _ _ ‘
The stonework of the church has now been completed. and, with the magnificent tower presented by Mrs A. H. Turnbull and her sons (as a mmorial of Mr A. H. Turnbull and‘Miss M. Tumbull), it shows what a beautiful building the new church will be., The Vicar (the Rev H. S. Leach) ceremoniously ascended the building a. week or two ago to' place the stone cross on the chancel—unfortunately no photograph was made of this event. Roofing was hung up for a little while on acgount of difliculty in procuring the s'fiiocial slates, but even that work is almost finished. '
1 Among other gifts to the church of Ispecial interest are a carved stone statue of St Barnabas, for the niche in the tower (the gift of Miss R. Gerard); a. reredos of oak,‘ with da‘ Vinci’s “ Last Supper " carved thereon (from the late Miss L. H. Stone’s family), a new organ (costing £750, the gift of Mr T. Chapman). a pulpit ,as a memorial of past vicars, and the historic stones from Solomon's Temple, Elijah’s rock, Mars Hill, St John’s Church at Ephesus and pieces from Glastonbury, Whitby, lona and Panama (Revs H. Leach and W'. A. Orange). The contract price is £9Bll (the tower foundation was a separate contract of £100). but the total cost will be nearly £12,000, of which over £IO,OOO has been ’raised. It is hoped to open the church entirely free of debt before the jubilee year ends. It is worth a special journey to Fendalton to see this fine church. ’
