ADDRESS-IN-REPLY DEBATE ENDED.
MEMBERS KEEP WELL INSIDE TIME LIMIT. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, July 2. Though members may talk for an hour on the Address-in-Reply, half a dozen speeches were crammed into Thursday night’s debate, one speaker confessing, after fifteen mimites, that he had reached the time limit. The topics were familiar, but Air Macmillan (Tauranga) touching on the high price of land, suggested, as a solution that no mortgage be registered for a greater sum. than the Government valuation. This would be drastic, but he hoped to see legislation on these lines. Bv 1.30 am. the discussion ran out., Mr Taplev (Dunedin North) the mover of the motion rising to reply. The House, he said, had heard enough about dairy control and would hear more, so he would content himself with saying that he was absolutely opposed to it. The motion, having been adopted without division, the House had a clear path for its ordinary business. It adjourned at 1.30 a.m.
