MR LANG SURPRISED BY BIG DEFICIT.

N.S.W. REVENUE FALLS AWAY £1,274,000. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.“Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY, July 1. The Xew South Wales revenue for the year ended June 30 amounted to £38,649,646, compared with £38,932,235 for the previous year. The expenditure amounted to £39.923,950, cofnpared with £39.688,684 the previous year. Mr Lang estimated that the year would end with a surplus of £13.616. but it has ended with a deficit of £1,274,000. He attributed the deficit to the operations of the Railways and Tramways Department which showed a retrogression compared with the previous year in the way of earnings and the cost of upkeep of £1.489,000, mostly due to the drought conditions from March to September causing a falling oft in primary production generally, and to the reduction of the wheat yield by 33,000,000 bushels.
