PREMIER DENIES STATEMENT IN THE " DAILY MAIL.”
DAIRY CONTROL BOARD’S POLICY WILL BE ADVANTAGEOUS TO ALL. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 24. The Prime Minister has issued the following statement for publication;— “The attention of the Government has been drawn to the following telegram ■which recently appeared in the London ‘Daily Mail’ from the editor of the ‘New Zealand Times”:— The New Zealand Dairy Control Board’s compulsory scheme, commencing on August *l, means that the Board’s London manager (Mr Wright) will fix the selling price from day to day for the whole Dominion output, and that the board employs Mr Wright to extract the last possible penny that the consumers will pay. Will the British public stand for such price-fixing? (Signed) HARRIS, ,Editor.” “I have placed myself in communication with the board and am glad to be informed that the statements made in this telegram are erroneous in fact, and are contrary to the board’s reiterated public pronouncements that its policy is and will be by well-ordered shipments to the British markets, combined -with constant consultation between London board members and selling agents there to stabilise prices upon a basis advantageous alike to the producers in New Zealand and to the consumers in Britain. The London manager of the board as its servant will carry out the policy of the board, which hopes by paying close attention to consumers’ requirements not only to benefit the New Zealand producer, but also to be of material service to the British consumer, thus maintaining the goodwill and satisfactory relationship between the two parties which has hitherto existed.”
