UNEMPLOYED ARE STILL INCREASING.

There was a queue of unemployed at the Labour Department offices this morning, when re-registrations and new registrations were effected. At the Trades Hall, there was a steady flow of those who were registering for the first time and those who were in need of relief. Donations of tea, sugar, bread, soups, honey and firewood have been received at the Trades Hal, but the demand is exceeding the supply, especially in the matter of clothing and foodstuffs. In addition to those who received relief before, there were another half dozen cases this morning who were provided with food. One of these cases was a man with six children. It is that some more work will be found next week, but until the work commences, it is expected that there will be a big demand for food from those w’ho have been out of work for some time in the early part of the week in order to tide them over until the work commences. Great care is being taken in order to see that the cases to which food and firing is given are in absolute need of it, for, as soon as a donation ill kind is received, it is distributed amongst those who are waiting. R.S.A. UNEMPLOYMENT FUND. The R.S.A. fund has been responsible for the employment of forty-three men on relief works under the Christchurch City Council, the New Brighton and Sumner Borough Councils and the Waimakariri River Trust during the past fortnight. There are still a large number of returned soldiers unemployed, and with a view to relieving the situation the association is running a series of Sunday evening concerts during the winter months.
