Mrs XV. 11. Price arrived in Christchurch by the ferry this morning. Miss Phyllis Smith is spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs Pinckney (Glenaray), has arrived in Christchurch and is staying at Warwick House. Sister Gill, late of Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer, is the guest of Mrs C. B. Russell, Worcester Street. Mrs W. B. Stevenson, “ Upcot,” Blenheim, has returned to her home after a short visit to Christchurch. A London cable states that among the New Zealanders to be presented at Court on June 9 and 10 are the Misses R. and M. Tripp, of Timaru. Miss Dulcie Mitchell has returned to Christchurch from Wanganui, where she was the soloist for the Wanganui Orchestral Society concert. Mrs T. M. Hunter and the Misses Hunter (3). have returned to Lyttelton from Wellington, where they were the guests of Mrs W. Cable. The usual weekly dance in connection with the Sydenham Free Kindergarten will take place in St Saviour’s Hall on Thursday next. Reg. Woods’s orchestra will supply the music. The friends of Mrs W. H. Chainey, Sydney, will be pleasqd to learn that she is now convalescing after a very severe attack of the influenza so prevalent in Sydney just now. The engagement is announced of Linda Elizabeth, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. S. Jones, Oamaru, to Geoffrey Churchill, second son of the late Mr and Mrs M. Smith, View Hill, Oxford. Guests at the Hotel Federal include: —Mr and Mrs E. W. Tajder and child, Wellington; Miss O’Halloran, Oxford; Miss Hutchison and Miss M. Hutchison, Dunedin; Mr and Mrs H. Gordon, Dunedin. A pleasant afternoon was given at the residence of Mrs J. Barbour, jun., Lin wood, to farewell her sister, Miss Florence Ward, who is returning to Sydney after an extended holiday in Christchurch. The guest was the recipient of many gifts. On Wednesday evening the St Luke’s troop of Girl Guides made a presentation to Miss Frances A, Cooper, of the St John Ambulance Brigade, who had lectured to them and coached them for their ambulance badges. Patrol Leader Smith, who made the presentation, thanked Miss Cooper on behalf of the guides for her kindness in giving up her time to helping them to gain their badges. Among the many farewell evenings given to Miss Irene Wrathall, to bid her bon voyage, was one recently given by Air A. Al’Donald-Smith at the studio of Mr F. James. Peterson,* of Brougham Street, gave an evening in honour of the coming of age of their son Jack. About eighty couples attended the evening, which was devoted to dancing and musical items. At the conclusion of supper, Mr Peterson, jun.. was presented with a gold key by his parents. The guest of honour was the recipient of many useful and valuable presents. The residence of Air and Mrs Jack Henery, Burke Street, Addington, was recently the scene of an enjoyable party, when the friends of Miss Mildred List gathered to bid her farewell on the eve of her departure for her home in Hastings. The time passed quickly with competitions, games and dancing. Aliss List was presented with an inscribed gold-mounted fountain pen. A successful dance under the auspices of the Marist Old Boys’ and Catholic Young Alen’s Club was held in the club rooms on Thursday evening. The hall was tastefully decorated by E. Bat chelor and J. Airs R. Patterscn, of Westport, returned to the West Coast this morning. Mrs J. 11. Grover, of Timaru, has returned to the south from Christchurch. Aliss ATary Macdonald (Hambleden, Bealey Avenue) has returned from a short visit to Timaru. Air and Airs J. Crisp, of *~nd, who were in Christchurch for several da3 r s, left for the south to-day. Air and Airs Gladstone Robinson, Oakwood, who were in Christchurch, left for their home to-day. Aliss AT. Wauchop, who was with Airs E. Stockwell, White Street, Timaru, has returned to Christchurch. Aliss J. McDowell has returned to her home in Hook after spending a fortnight's holiday with Airs Legg, Clarence Street. Airs Thomas, who has been the guest of Airs Harold Barker, Feudal ton, is now staying with Lady Campbell, Davaar. Airs Barker, who has been visiting her sister, Airs Boyle, Park Terrace, returned to Woodbury yesterday. Aliss Doris Barker is now the guest of Airs Bojde. Mr and Mrs Douglas Le Cren, Highfield, motored back to Timaru from Christchurch on Thursday, accompan ied by Alisses Betty and Margaret Le Cren.

Their Excellencies, Sir Charles and Lady Alice Ferguson and party, who are visiting the South Sea Islands, are expected to return to Wellington on Tuesday. Aliss Boyle, who accompanied their Excellencies, will return to Christchurch on Wednesday. On Thursday evening at the residence of Mr and Airs Diffin, Alatapo Street, Riccarton, an enjoyable jazz evening was held. Streamers and other novelty dances were introduced. Alr and Mrs A. Beeby, of Redcliffs (late of Liawood Avenue) have received a cable announcing the marriage* at Manchester, England, of their son, Clarence, to Beatrice Newnham, of Christchurch, New Zealand. Air Beeby left here twelve months ago from Canterbury College to take a two years’ course at Manchester University. Aliss Newnham is well known in teaching circles in Christchurch and left New Zealand a few weeks ago with her mother. The honeymoon will be spent oi\ the Continent.

A particularly charming bridge party was given last night at her home in Heaton Street, by Mrs Frank Graham,. the guest of honour being Miss Dorothy Hay, who is leaving early next week, for a trip to Europe. The guests, who enjoyed Airs Graham’s hospitaliay were: Aliss Hay, Air and Mrs E. G. Norman, Mr and Airs Ronald Fisher, Air and Mrs J. G. Hawkins, Air and Mrs Richard Jamieson, Mr and Airs Kenneth Robinson, Air and Airs W. A. Whitlock, Air and Airs Ronald Cuthbert, Air and Airs Ross Lascelles, Air and Airs Robert Livingstone, Air and Mrs Jack Ferrier, Air and Airs Cj'-ril Stringer, Aliss Nancye le Cren, and Mr John Duncan. A very pleasant evening was spent recently at the residence of Airs R. Tindale, 36 Edenbridge Street, Sprevdon. Musical items were rendered by the Alisses T. and R. Petersen and Alessrs Atkins, Samson, Al’Gill, Terris, and Lange. During the evening a presentation was made by Mr Atkins to Mr W. Turner, who has now left to spend a holiday in the North Island.
