TOUCHES WHICH MAKE FOR SMARTNESS.

There are two things which, if a woman is dressed with ordinary good taste otherwise, set her apart immediately as having a ‘ smart appearance.” One is a novel vanity bag. The other a novel purse. Never let either one be stereotyped. Make each individual—something to set off your personality. It is not hard to find something which is tasteful and also different. They are to be found in almost every shop. Too many women buy conventional vanity cases—the sort everyone else is carrying. I carry a small brown leather vanity case, made exactly like a miniature suitcase, with my initial stamped on the end, writes Arlette Marchal. This with many variations, is a quite distinct Parisian novelty. A beaded bag is also lovely, but it should be a good one, and in good taste. Such bags are so conspicuous that if you obtain one that is not done especially well, it is .far too noticeable. Other kinds of handbags are in just as good taste, and can be obtained in many novel designs. Get some thing that will stand out, and set off your dress. It is best to have several bags for various occasions, but they need not be expensive ones. Simply use good taste—but be different. Just as you don’t want a dress like the next woman’s, ‘so you should try to have a different handbag or vanity case. I have always noticed, too, that a woman carries herself better, and makes a better impression, when she knows she is carrying a smart article. Mile Marchal will be seen in companv with Betty Bronson. Ricardo Cortez, and Theodore Roberts in the Paramount picture, “The Cat’s Pyjamas.”
