LATE SOCIAL NEWS.
WHITCOMBE’S DANCE. Whitcombe's thirty-fifth annual dance was held in the Caledonian Hal! on Thursday evening. Great credit is due to the hard-working committee, as the hall was filled to its capacity In the thirty-five years that the' dance has been m vogue. Thursday evenings excels anything that has before been attempted. The hall was beautifully decorated, and a special attraction was added by the installation of coloured floodlights. Beautiful dance music and perfect time are a credit to Sutherlands New Orchestra, as four and five encores were given at each dance In the balloon and streamer dance, 300 balloons and 800 streamers were used as a novelty At midnight, the dance stopped for five minutes, during which time, the orchestra played, and the dancers joined in singing the National Anthem to commemorate the Kings 61st Birthday. To aatisfy the many requests the dance was extended until an hour longer than arranged ' Yi A T n ?- *rt '\vT7° Us guests were Mr B. E. It Vv hitcotnbe. managing director, and Mr Basil Whitcombe. Many of the welhknown business houses were represented at the dance.
