SAN' FRANCISCO, April 16. “Native beauty,” as applied to Filipino women, has been a vague term, even in Filipinos, due to influences wrought bv the contact of the Filipino people with the Occident through three ai)d a half centuries of Spanish domination and a quarter century of American occupation of the Philippines. But the first Philipine national beauty show held recently in connection with the Manila carnival clarified the connotation of the term and revealed the type

of beauty nearest to the heart of the Philipino. It wds significant that the jury of the show selected for the highest —,,iour as Miss Philipines, a girl whose beauty is of the non-Caucasian type. For Miss Anita Noble is a real Filipino, and if the term “native beauty” was vague to most Filipinos, it is no longer so, for she is unquestionably the ideal Filipino beauty. Miss Philippines is of average height. She has very smooth, light brown complexion, dreamy eyes with curling lashes, a small, sweet mouth and sound, even, white teeth. The Filipino is particular about the smile. Thus Miss Noble qualifies—sweet lips and a ■ lovable smile.
