STRONG CAST PLAYS IN “THOSE WHO JUDGE.”
GOOD FEATURES AT GRAND THEATRE. “ Those Who Judge ” is an adaptation of a novel by Margery- Lund May and is transferred to the screen without the story suffering in the slightest. The picture version, is an artistic | triumph for Patsy Ruth Miller and Lou Tellegen, and they’ are supported by a strong and capable cast. Particularly accomplished and fascinating is the acting of Miss Miller, who takes the part of the misused and misjudged woman whose actions are governed by one Chapman Griswold, a blackmailing lie er-do-well. The second feature, "The Remittance Woman” affords an insight into life in the East, and shows the tremendous hold that superstition has on the people there. The attention of patrons cannot wander, for the story’, into which much of the superstitious clement has been infused, is gripping throughout. An American girl, ably por-tray-ed by’ the popular film star, Ethel Clayton, finds herself the possessor of a sacred talisman which the rival sections of the Chinese believe to have been blessed by Buddha himself. How the girl manages to get to China in the first place is a story’ in itself. Once
there, the Manchus and the forces of Chuen-Y en find, out that the stolen talisman is in her possession, and their superstitious frenzy’ to recover it for its supernatural powers makes the story in the Chinese setting. The supporting programme is interesting and diversified. The Grand Quality Orchestra contributes a programme of appropriate music.
