GOLDEN WEDDING.
Mr and Mrs William C. Smith, of 100 Lincoln Road, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding at their residence on Saturday. Mr Smith is an old Christchurch identitj\ being born in 1554 at the residence of Air Dudley, Avonside. At a very early age he took up farming at the homestead of Mr F. H. Brittain, on the Canal Reserve, Avonside. lie remembers how, in the old hunting days, he used to drag the scent over country-side for the hounds to follow, and how the ladies went through the gates while the men rode after the hounds. Air Smith retired from business last year, after being at the Stanmore Nurseries and later with Buxtons, Ltd. Mrs Smith, then Aliss Annie King, arrived in New Zealand by the ship Celestial Queen in the year 1573, and took service with Aliss Robinson, in Chester Street, from whose house she was married in 1576. Aliss Robinson who now, at the age of 91, is residing in Switzerland, sent Air and Airs Smith a golden wedding present, which they received a few days ago. There are fo.ur children of the marriage, Air F. C. Smith, Ferry Road; Air F. T. Smith, Spreydon; Airs Williams, Christchurch, and Airs Davies, Ilawera. Air and Airs Smith have twelve grandchildren.
