MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Air H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 10s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. SLEPT OUT. Alichael Joseph Hurley, a young man, was charged with being an idle and disorderly person. Chief-Detective T. Gibson said that Hurley had slept out on the golf links at Shirley. “Why have you been sleeping out?” the Magistrate asked. “Because I was turned out,” Hurley replied. He said that he had tried to get work in the foundries. The Magistrate: “One month, and when you come out, you had better put yourself in Major Barnes’s hands.” JUVENILE COURT. THRASHING IS ORDERED. The ring-leader of a little gang of three' who broke into a dwelling and stole 6s 6d, was ordered to get a thrashing. The Alagistrate said that the boy’s father would be given an opportunity to inflict the thrashing, otherwise it would be done by somebody in authority. The other boys were placed in the hands of the Child Welfare Officer for twelve months. STOLE A RIFLE. A boy, charged with stealing a rifle from the Defence Department, said that he was looking after the house, doing all the cooking. The mother of another boy who took part in the same offence, said that he did it when he was “playing the wag.” Both offenders were placed in the hands of the Child Welfare Officer for twelve months. DEPRIVED OF POCKET-AIONEY. A boy who rode his bicycle on the footpath, and narrowly missed an old ladj', was fined ss, the Alagistrate saying that he could go without pocketmoney for two weeks. Two boys, for riding without lights, were let off with an admonition.
