MISTY RAIN FALLS STEADILY.

SPORTS FIXTURES ARE CURTAILED, Following a dull day on Thursday misty rain set in in the evening and has continued almost incessantly ever since. Last night the lighter rain gave way to heavy showers, but thick misty rain was again falling this morning and there was no sign of it clearing at noon when a decision had to be come to in regard to the playing of outdoor sports. The atmosphere was not so cold to-day as on the two previous days. Mr Wooles predicts that the present easterly drizzle will lift little to-day, but that within the next day or two there will be an outburst from the south-west. The quantity of rain which fell during the twenty-four hours ending at 9.30 a.m. this morning was 1.130 inches. A number of the football and hockey grounds had water lying on them. It was decided that in the Rugby code only Senior A games should be played. A similar decision was arrived at by the Soccer people. All League games were postponed. WAHINE FOUND IT FAIRLY ROUGH. A fairly rough passage was encountered by the Wahine on her trip south last night. There was a strong nor’ easterly wind and swell. About 11 o’clock the stewards’ quarters were flooded, through the port-holes being open. Having a favourable wind the vessel made good time and arrived at 6.45 o’clock this morning. NO FURTHER SLIPS IN AUCKLAND. Per Press, Association. AUCKLAND, May 22. There have been no more landslips on railway lines. It is expected that all services will be back to normal on, Monday, while already there has been an extension of the services on the Katpara line. The rain has ceased and the sun is shining.
