PIGEON FLYING.
The Canterbury Homing- Pigeon Flying Club flew their final young bird race of the season from Blenheim recently, when ninety-eight birds, representing sixteen owners, competed. The birds were liberated by Mr J. H. Morrison at 10 a.m., in calm weather, which enabled the birds to register good velocities. The winning bird, Grand Knight, the property of Mr A. Jones, flew the distance of 160 miles 1450 yd» in 4 hours ISinin 54sec. Following were the results:— Yards per min. A. Jones's Grand Knight 1093 A. Higgs’s Kelly 1087 L. AVllsh ire’s Spreydon Doreen 10S7 C. Martin’s No. 330 10Sj C. Anderson’s Avalon 10S4 J. Sparks’s 1063 P. Chambers's No. 164 1080 D. Cunningham’s No. 520 107 3 J. Close’s No. 715 107 8 AV. Puddle’s No. 363 1073 A. Gerard's No. .391 1071 J. Pratt’s No. 79 1008 AV. Unwin’s No. 1957 884 J. Belworthy’s No. 204 879 A. Jones holds for one year the Inkson challenge trophy, and L. Wll shire wins the Blue Ribbon, presented by Air G. M’Dougall for the highest, aggregate in young bird races. A. Jones wins the special nominated bird prize.
