LIVELY CONTESTS.

Sunnyside v. Nomads. Nomads kicked off and Immediately Chapman made a fast solo trip down the wing, but the ball went out. Christian and Chapman were prominent in a forward movement by Nomads, but Thompson relieved and put Sunnyside and centred. Gibson made a great fight from a penalty close in, owing to a hands foul against Muscroft, Purdy scored. Sunnyside 1, Nomads 0. Nomads left wing went off, but Wells and M’Leod were in the way. Nomads pushed down and secured a corner, from which Scragge and Abbott war* dangerous. From Bond's kick Purdy put M’Lauchlan away, but Graham forced him out. Abbett robbed Mlzen and cetred. Gibson made a great fight on his own to get through, then passed to Abbett, but Bond cleared. Sunnyside went up. and Sutherland tested Jim M’Dougall with a hot one from the wing, but the goalie made a wonderful save and was applauded. Norman. Scragge and Abbett did a clever move from a throw-In, and Nomads were pressing. Another Nomads attack looked likely, but Gibson failed to connect. . Howarth lowered Sutherland and passed to Gibson. Sunnyside were anxious, but Bond forced out. Sunnyside were showing excellent combination, but Nomads’ dash and determination equalised the play. From a long wing shot by M’Lauchlan Mizen slipped the ball in a corner of the net. Sunnyside 2, Nomads 0. Shortly after Gibson was laid out for a time in a stirring attack on the Sunnyside goal, and was carried off. This unfortunate incident cast a damper on the game. Kaiapoi v. Villa A. "Villa kicked off against Kaiapoi at English Park, and the opening exchanges were even until Anderson put Villa on the attack. Berry gathered from Thomas and rapped the upright with a fast, low shot. Play swung to the other end. where Spiers drove In a first-timer. Comfort diverted for a corner, which was abortive. A moment later Kaiapoi were nearly through, following a desperate melee in the Villa goal. Streeter finally drove clear and Villa swept upfield and Johnstone was streaking for goal when Simpson overhauled him, and booted for a corner, which was cleared. In a sharp Kaiapoi right flank movement Verlander, the Villa centre half, handled the ball in the penalty area. Isles took the kick but shot outside. Kaiapoi came again and from a midfield assault Aspinall levelled th«* scores with a. great shot. Villa cleared three corners with difficulty but from a mix up in the Villa goal Aspinall found an opening and gave Kaiapoi the lead. From a Villa attack Johnstone placed to Berry, well up. but the winger shot past. Kaiapoi once more took the offensive. Bruce made ground down the line and placed to Cowan who found the net with a long shot. Kaiapoi determined to make their position secure and the forwards swept down field in line. Bruce swung over from the right and Noble placed to Howarth who gave Comfort no chance from close in. A brief Villa raid to the other end and Kaiapoi were back again. Spiers gathered the ball close in and drove _ in a low shot. Almost immediately afterward Speirs again found the net and put Kaiapoi 5 goals up. Kaiapoi had .all the best of the closing stages and were attacking when time was called, with the score: KAIAPOI ... 8 VILLA 3 Technical v. Workshops. Playing at Ensor's Road.
