WANGANUI NOTES.
(Special to the “Star.”) WANGANUI, April 30. The recent meeting of the Rangitikei Racing Club resulted in a profit, despite the fact that there was a big drop in the totalisator returns. It is understood that Alaric has gone into_ A. Jackson’s stable at Hawera. Dwyer is said to contemplate a trip to Australia, and if he goes he will probably take Kiosk and Elthein over with him. Great Day was not brought back to Wanganui, but was left at Feilding after the Manawatu meeting. W. Rayner will take Motley, Anklet and The Thorn out to Mr G. M. Currie’s stud farm to-morrow, and will bring back with him three youngsters. They are a colt by Limond-Melting, filly by Limond—Pennon, and colt by Absurd—Cherry Mart. F. Lind is giving Civility a short let-up, but she ■will be got ready for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter meeting. G. Powell arrived back in Wanganui on Wednesday with Ilallownoon, who has been racing all the season on the West Coast of the South Island, where the daughter of Hallowmas did fairly well. She is evidently an improved mare, and she should run well at Wav* erley next Wednesday. Nominations for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter meeting are due on Monday. A large number of jumpers are being got ready on this coast for the Egmont and Wanganui meetings, and it is un* derstood that Auckland will be well represented, Llewelyn and Glenotus being two who are said to be coming to Wanganui. Landbird, last year's winner of the Wanganui Steeplechase, is also expected to be here again, and big fields should be seen out in the hurdle and cross-country events.
Now that the tracks will be on the easy side, it is expected that Alaric will show good form, and he should run well in the Waverley Cup. Merle continues to do good work, and the Elysian filly is likely to get in the money at Waverley. Royal Elm has been hitting out freely of late, and the racing at Feilding evidently did him good. an Fera and Kareao are said to be doing good work at Hawera.
Among the horses being got ready for the Waverley meeting who are shaping well on the tracks are Acred and Glengariff. The latter is engaged in the Patea County Cup.
