HAWKE’S BAY NOTES.
(Special to the “Star.”) NAPIER, April 30. Break o’ Day has been sold to the native owner, Mr Hori Tuanaea, owner of Crown Coin. The price is said to be in the region of a hundred guineas, at which he should be cheap. He ran second in his new owner's colours today at Hastings, paying a two-figure dividend. Crown Coin and Break o’ Day are trained by Rangi Thompson at Greenmeadows. A good looking and, well bred hack was seen out to-day in Superb King, a big bay gelding by* Our King—Sublime. He should come good in time. Mr W. S. M’Dermott, proprietor of the Melbourne “Graphic” and a member of the Victorian Amateur Turf Club, was a visitor at the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting to-day. He was anxious to purchase Commendation, but the price asked, 6000 guineas, did not induce business. Mr M’Dermott also offered Mr A. B. Williams 2250 guineas for Star Stranger, but this was refused.
