MR CORSON AND FLOUR DUTY ARGUMENT.
When interviewed this morning regarding the .statement made by the Minister of Agriculture, the. lion O. J Hawken, to the effect that he could see no reason for increasing the duty on flour. Mr F. R. Corson, chairman of Distributors Ltd., said that he did not intend to reply to the Minister at present. lie was preparing a statement setting out the whole facts of the case and showing how the Government and the people were being misled. lie hail offered to meet members of the Canterbury A. and P. Association and place the statement before them. lie hoped that this meeting would be open to the Press. If it were not he would supply the newspapers with a statement.
Yesterday a deputation representing the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and the Canterbury A. and I*. Association waited on the Minister to ask him to increase the duty on imported flour and also to prevent the dumping of Australian flour into the Dominion. The deputation was a private one. but when interviewed later the. Minister indicated that there was little hope of the Government consenting to increase the duty.
