Speaking at a meeting of German industrial and commercial representatives Dr Luther welcomed the British Coal Commission’s rejection of the idea of continuing the coal subsidy, the serious effect of which on German coal could be gauged from the fact that coal exported from the Ruhr was 1,350,000 tons in March, as compared with 1,600,000 tons in July last year, while 377,000 men were employed in the Ruhr in March'as compared with 423,000 in July last year, and mines were still closing down' br working short, time.
