PIANO TUNE BRINGS PEACE AND HARMONY.
The strains of “ Leave Me With a Smile ” concluded the meeting of West Christchurch householders last night. The music was played by the committee’s new piano, and the audience took the hint—they left with a smile. But the piano had not received many smiles during the evening. Harsh words were levelled at it, and it shivered in the corner. One householder said he noticed that the committee had a credit balance of some £230, and he thought there were many'things more necessary than a piano on which to spend the money. The instrument quailed in the corner until the chairman stood up in its defence. He said the amount spent on the piano had been subscribed specifically for that purpose; and what was more, the Education Board would subsidise the amount by £SO. No money for the instrument had come from the school funds.
This seemed to please the ivory keys, and with great glee they responded to the invitation to show how they, could play. They capped the whole business by selecting the right tune.
