TRAPPED 10 DAYS BY SNOW, MAN, WIFE EAT OWN SHOES.
(Special to the “Star.") NEW YORK, March 10. Trapped in a terrific snowstorm at the Feather River ranger station on February 38, and so racked by hunger that they boiled and chewed on their shoes, J. E. Reeder and wife, 317, J Street, Sacramento, were forced to wait until March 1 before they could lx: rescued by a caterpillar and sled crew from the Red River Lumber Company at Westwood. The Reeders started out from Red Bluff, approximately fifty miles west of the point from which they were found, for a brief trip to the Feather River meadow country. When they reached the ranger station they found that the snow had blocked all roads and trails under drifts five feet high. Their food supply was soon exhausted, and Reeder ventured forth and caught two sparrows, which they As succeeding days wore on the couple lost hope and noted their sufferings in their “death diary.” On Saturday last a maintenance man of the State Highway Commission came upon them. He hastened back to Westwood and there informed R. P. Gardner, managed of the cruising department of the lumber company.
