Miss Fryer, Knowles Street, is spending a short holiday in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Frank Jones are spending a short holiday in Dunedin. Lady Bell, who has been in Christchurch for several days, left for the north last evening.
Mrs J. S. Thomson will leave Christchurch to-day on a a isit to Central Otago.
Lady Campbell. Davaar, is spending a few days in Christchurch, and is staying at the United Service Hotel. Miss Ivy Munro is visiting Dunedin, where she is the guest of her aunt, Mrs Allan Johnston.
Mrs R. Ellingham, Pahiatua, is a recent arrival in Christchurch, and is registered at the United Service Hotel.
Mrs Marmaduke Bethell is visiting Christchurch, and is staying at Warner’s Hotel.
Miss Hitchcock, matron of the Karitane Hospital, Auckland, who has been visiting Christchurch, went north last night. Mr and Mrs Burseil, Marlborough, and Mrs G..S. (.'ray, Timaru, are among the recent arrivals staying at Warner's Hotel.
Mr and Mrs John M'Crory, Fendalton, leave next week for England, Canada and Europe. They will be absent about two years.
Mr and Mrs H. Caro, of Hamilton, who are the guests of Mrs B. Ballin, Xaseby Street, will return to the north on Wednesday evening.

Mr and Mrs Godfrey O. Rutherford, Lochiel, who have been visiting Dunedin, returned to Christchurch on
Saturday, and have left for their home in North Canterbury.
Mr and Mrs J. W. Toomey and family, of Richardson Street, Opawa, who have been the guests of Mrs Macdonald, Dunedin, returned home vesterday.
Private advice from Sydney records the death of Miss Frances Ross, a wellknown actress, who for many years was leading lady for Bland Holt. She was a native of Invercargill.
On Saturday the staff of Messrs J. R. Al’Kenzie, Ltd., assembled to sav good-bye to Miss Alex Kinvig, who has resigned her position on account of her approaching marriage. Miss Kinvig was presented with a handsome zylonite toilet set as a token of the appreciation and esteem in which she was held by the members of the staff.
Mrs R. Malcolmson, of Riccarton, is spending a short holiday in Dunedin. Mrs W. Steward, Sealey Street, has returned to Timaru from Christchurch. Miss Rose Gerard left to-day for a short visit to Timaru. Mrs Stringer (Auckland), who has been visiting her son, Dr Bruce Stringer, has returned to the north. Mrs Meikle has arrived from the north on a visit to her nephew, Dr Bruce Stringer (Papanui Road). Miss Bowen. Riccarton. is the guest of Airs W. Helmore, Koromiko, Waiiti Road, Timaru. Mrs Wolseley Kain, who has been staying with Mrs J. G. L. Vernon, returned to Geraldine to-day. Mrs G. Alurray-Aynsley motored to Timaru to-day, where she will spend a few days. Air and Airs George Andrews. Evans Street. Timaru, and Airs Alalcolmson, Christchurch, motored south from Christchurch on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Leslie Alacfarlane, Ivaiwarra. Culverden. are spending a few days in Christchurch, and are registered at. Warner’s Hotel. Air and Airs C. H. Handley, of Palmerston North, who have been visiting Dunedin and Christchurch, left to-day for Picton, en route to their home. The engagement is announced, of Edith Alary, third daughter of Mr and Mrs J. A. Powell, “Ardlogie,” Waihao Downs, to Hugh Lowry, younger son of Mr and Mrs W. Jennings, Fitzgerald Avenue, Christchurch. Mr and Airs Metcalfe, Auckland, and Mr and Airs W. Beamish, Hastings, Airs and Aliss Philpotts, Picton, Airs D. 11. Rutherford, Aliss AI. Rutherford. Palmerston North, are staying at the United Service Hotel. The advent of Alanuel. Hyman and his Exhibition Cabaret Orchestra is being eagerly anticipated. Owing to previous arrangements, only one dance can be given and this will take place at the Winter Garden on Tuesday next, May 4. A strictly limited number of tickets only are to be issued and should be obtained immediately at The Bristol. Guests at the Hotel Federal include:—Mr and Airs D. Reid, Air and Airs W. Baker, Air A. Clarke (Feilding) : Air Walter C. White, Miss Finch, Air A. Bruce (Wellington), Mr R. Hull (Waiuku), Air and Airs Davidson (Nelson), Air F. Scales (Dunedin), Air T. W. Scott (Timaru), Mrs K. AI. Knight (Whakatane), and Air W. A. Robertson (Auckland). The usual monthly meeting of the Women’s Progressive Club, Governor’s Bay, was held on Thursday last. The. usual business being transacted, therewas a discussion respecting the raft, but a decision was left to a future meeting. Airs Pairman read a short but amusing play, and rendered three pianoforte solos, which were much appreciated. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in Ballantyne’s private leception room yesterday afternoon, when Mrs FI. T. J. Thacker, president of the Christchurch branch of the Ladies’ Guild of the British Seamen’s Society, entertained the committee and presidents of other guilds at a farewell tea given in honour of Airs J. FI. Ilall, who is shortly leaving for a visit to England. The tables were beautifully decorated with roses and ferns, and bowls of tawny shaded chrysanthemums decorated the room. Afrs Thacker spoke in eulogistic terms of the excellent work Airs Hall had done for the society and wished her a happy and enjoyable holiday. Those present were:—Mrs 11. T. J. Thacker, Airs J. H.
