VIEWED JROM THE STAND. A very tough ten minutes to begin with. Dailey tried to dodge through and was well dumped. The crowd—part of it—roared its approbation. A free kick let Whites out of a hot attack. Dailey was again hotly tackled. He was being closely m»ked. Promising White attack spoiled by a knock-on. - S. Carleton made a determined dash, and was fiercely tackled. Linwood suporters were more vocal. Whites a tacking on the line when Green rush carried play past halfWhite backs could not stand up or handle. Harris saved with a beautiful kick. Dalley got the backs going with the best passing rush so far. R. Carleton saved from a hot corLinwood came on the attack—a very hot one. A free kick to them spoiled a promising chance. Kick a poor one. Dailey again saved his side. A Linwood forward rush took the ball to the fine amid roars. A big White came away. Back the ball went to the fine. A grand White rush relieved. Linwood came again, and nearly scored. A bright game. The pace a cracker. White away again. Elvy came to fight with an electrical run. But was brought down. R. Carleton caught in possession—a smart piece of work by a Linwood man. S. Carleton put in a serviceable kick to the Green corner. A passing rush promised well, but broke down in front of the goal. Dailey was smartly smothered in possession. A free kick to Greens saved the situation. Linwood full-back in trouble. Elvy made another jinky run. He is one of the crowd’s darlings. Harris in trouble, but got out of it. Again in trouble, and caught with the ball. Elvy out for a few seconds. Whites on the job—nearly over twice. Sacks on the mill near the goal post. Ball out to Dailey, who was over in a flash. Beautifully done. Cheers general. Five points. Fine White rush had hard luck. Elvy had another run, was soundly tackled with the ball, and the bell rang. The last ten minutes were Whites’. Second half. Dailey fielded the return to the kickoff, and put the Whites on the attack. A White back missed and lost a lovely chance. Greens on the attack, held up by a mark. Chance lost through bad passing. A long shot at goal fell short. A splendid forward rush by Greens, and a delirious try near the post. Five all. Whites on the attack again. Dailey feinted, and nearly got away with it. Miller saved the Greens with a kick. Then the drama. Dailey passed out, and, after the finest passing of the day, S. Carleton beat half a- dozen and went round behind the posts. Old Boys ten and leading again. Fast and exciting piay. Linwood man carried off. Linwood on the line, and held up. Again into the breach and nearly a score. Free kick to Old Boys—they hadn’t many. Another soon after. Old Boys’ backs got going again, and another nice try, the reward of following up. Old Boys thirteen. “ Don’t play rough, now! ” Came from the banker mentor. It was good advice; the play was strenuous. Linwood took a pass off-side and saved a dangerous corner. Elvy has a tussle with two Whites and comes out ail right. Another Linwood man laid out for a few seconds. The game was slower now—no wonder. Harris saved in the nick of time. If Linwood's backs were equal to their forwards . A free kick to Linwood, within range. A fine goal—Linwood eight to thirteen. Time to do it yet! Greens much heartened and get on the job. Dailey “ marked,"’ the crowd keeping him company. The Linwood substitute. Brown, saves a White rush in first-class fashion. A White down for a few minutes. A White passing rush was very promising, but was broken up. DalTey penalised for holding the ball. Great cheers. Elvy, in a great dash along the line, brought down by two Whites. More rushes, and another White out. Nearing the end, and spectators leav-
ing. Brown caught in possession, and Elvy relieved. The end of a great game.
